The Personal Computer has
evolved

Welcome to ODI Modular Computers.

We believe that technology should help enrich our lives by being simple, sustainable and sexy.  So, we have embarked on a journey to create a suite of electronic modules that can be combined in weird and wonderful ways to form computing, entertainment and other consumer electronic devices.

Announcement: LX Innovations Pty Ltd Prematurely Terminates Hardware Development Contract

As previously announced ODI-MC Pty Ltd entered into a collaborative agreement with LX Innovations Pty Ltd earlier this year resulting in a services contract; LX Innovations was to build the physical electronics for the ODI-MC Modular Computer.

Approximately half way through the project timeline, ODI-MC was informed by LX Innovations that the contracted labour figures had been revised resulting in a price increase of approximately 1000%.  Such a revision was not contemplated in the contract and ODI-MC could not meet increased expectations of such magnitude.  As a result, LX Innovations prematurely terminated the contract.

Due to the contract termination and the resulting unrecoverable delay to the project timeline, the production of the Modular Computer Alpha prototype is no longer tenable and ODI-MC will be unable to debut the technology at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011.

ODI-MC has suffered considerable financial loss due to the contract termination resulting in the production of its line of modular computers being no longer tenable.  ODI-MC Pty Ltd intends to take legal action against LX Innovations Pty Ltd in order to recoup its losses as soon as it can reasonably do so.

LX Innovations Prematurely Terminates Hardware Build Contract

ODI-MC’s hardware design partner, LX Innovations Pty Ltd has elected to prematurely terminate their services contract with ODI-MC  for the Alpha prototype build.  More information will be posted as it becomes available.

ODI-MC asked to Blog on Intel Embedded Design Centre site

intel-logoWe are pleased to announce that the Embedded & Communication Group of Intel Corporation have asked ODI-MC to blog on the Intel Embedded Design Centre site throughout the development of the ODI Modular Computer Platform.

The the blog will cover everything from the formation of ODI-MC back in March 2010 through to the completion of our first Milestone – reaching the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2011.  The content will be a mixture of technical and non-technical content; the technical content will mainly focus on how we are using the Intel tools and technologies for Linux-based development and the non-technical will be status updates and how our development effort is progressing (the high’s AND the low’s).

New-look Site & Updated Prototype Specs!

We are a little late on our blog post this week, apologies for that.  Now that our Software development is well and truly underway there just aren’t enough hours in the day!

That said, a lot has happened over the last week.  Firstly, we hope you like our new site look-and-feel.  To go with the new look, we have also overhauled a lot of the content to keep you up-to-date with what’s going on.

Secondly, we have updated all the specs of our Alpha prototype Modules; what you see on the site is what we are building for CES 2011!  You can even follow how our development is progressing via the Our Progress page (updated weekly).
